Sophisticated Japan... 洗練された日本 (Senrensareta Nihon)...

22 May 2013

こんばんは (Konbanwa)... へようこそ 洗練された日本(E yōkoso Senrensareta Nihon)...
Good evening... Welcome to Sophisticated Japan!

After visiting carnivals in Brazil... having a cup of tea in the Imperial of China... It is time to soak in the bed of sakura (桜)... TM Ikuyo, Japan born lady, led the meeting as the TOM. She actually didn't agree the term sophisticated comes along with Japan since nowadays many nations are catching up in terms of technology. She pinpointed on the map of Japan the city she was raised in. She also told us Japan's tradition where boys and girls who are 20 years old celebrating their inception of adulthood by carrying out festivals. It's quite astonishing that you are only allowed to vote after 20 where in most countries they are eligible by the time they are 17 or 18.

TM Ikhwan led the Table Topic. He presented each topic based on pics of various Japanese culture: manga, comics, folklore, to politics in which the current Prime Minister of Japan is considering to reform their defensive army to allow it to make offensive move... a scary reminder of World War II.

Prepared Speech:
TM Ronald BM 2, evaluated by TM Ariel. TM Ronald opened up by presenting quotes from famous people on mistakes and how they perceive them. He argued that we shouldn't regard mistakes as hindrance to our development. He presented cases where he took courage to do mistakes by participating in Toastmasters, doing difficult yoga poses and provided cases from famous people (Steve Jobs).

TM Sai BM 2, evaluated by TM Lia. TM Sai presented a topic in which he is very passionate about. He got the idea after watching Star Trek in which the future people have limitless source of energy. That kind of energy, he argued, can eradicate poverty or the money as we know now since everything is abundant. Quite a utopian world, but hey, anything can happen in the future. We stepped our foot in the moon when it was deemed "lunatic" decades ago.

TM Kelvin BM5, evaluated by TM Rizko. TM Kelvin slapped himself in order to gain our attention, so much for an opening! He elaborated by explaining his action to restructure our thinking on emotional pain in which he intended the opening for. Emotional pain is some kind of perception and it can be altered by changing our way of thinking towards the positive polarity and that we, ourselves, are the ones responsible for our happiness.

TM Iyox BM 9, evaluated by TM Tiamar. TM Iyox took the responsibility of being the next term Vice President of Membership by promoting Toastmasters. He encouraged us to bring friends and emphasized on the benefits of Toastmasters. What we can achieve and how do we begin our Toastmasters journey.

TM Agi BM 4, evaluated by TM Riska. TM Agi was overwhelmed when he attended Toastmaster meeting and one speaker, Diva if I'm not mistaken, brought a topic about passion in job. It reminisced him on his deepest dissatisfaction on his current job and decided to actually do something about it. So up he sent out CVs and attended interviews in his quest to work in his passion. That's another thing about Toastmasters, you can get inspiration about your life that you can actually make it into realization. Our prayers be with you TM Agi, may you find out your passion.

As promised and campaigned last week, it was time for the second part of "Evaluation Trilogy". TM Sukardi presented strategies on evaluating: not to touch the content, hinder the "usual" part in evaluating, praises are of the utmost important, etc. He even evaluated the evaluators after the evaluation session to get the evaluators evaluated so that they can give proper evaluation that may propel those evaluated to be a better speaker after being evaluated... OK, enough for evaluation... We had several first time evaluators that evening:

Next Mots Day (that's what motsers refer to Wednesday), we're gonna visit Africa... Wait for its savanna, exoticism and don't forget the last part of evaluation trilogy.

Hall of Fame: TM Ariel for Table Topic speaker:
