The Embarrassing Moment

In April, we talk about the most memorable moments in our life. At the start of the month, we talked about “The Most Unforgettable Moments”. Last week, we talked about The Most Embarrassing Moments”.

Ratih, one of our new members, tried being a Table Topic Master for the first time, providing questions for not only 5 speakers, 8 speakers, but 11 speakers in total!

The Table Topic Speakers shared about their most embarrassing moments in life, garnering laughter from the audience. They spoke about their most embarassing moments in childhood, high school, work, and etc.

For example, Christina told us about accidentally using her Javanese accent in saying “BBM”. It made her co-workers kept teasing her until now.

Favorite Table Topic Speakers: Iyok and Tama.
At the end of the Table Topic, we all felt we know the speakers better, thanks to Ratih in her TTM debut.

For prepared speeches, Arya delivered his BM1, introducing about himself, the meaning of his name, his past habits and his goals for the future. It is always interesting to watch speakers delivering his speech for the first time, making us all look back to that first time in front of the members where we were nervous and forgot our draft.

Arya has a natural sense of humor that seems to always overflow in him. He still had to improve in English fluency and grammar skils, but he had the talent to entertain and make people laugh. Hopefully, we will see more of his speeches. In the next Humorous Speech Contest, perhaps?

Mato from JTC delivered his BM4.
Mato came all the way from JTC to deliver his BM4, talking about the benefits of traveling, seeing the world, and learning other countries’ cultures. He said, while traveling we might meet “friendgers” (friends who are previously strangers) that could be the friend of a lifetime. Who knows? Traveling will broaden your perspective, and will be great memories. One of his most memorable lines was, “A stranger is a friend you haven’t met yet”.

So true, so enlightening.

Are you ready to pack your bag and see the world?

Praw delivered his “Speaking to Inform” Advanced Speech, explaining about the “Competent Leader” manual. When you start being a Toastmasters member, there are two paths to pursue. The Communication and the Leadership Tracks.

Delivering speeches with various purposes means you are learning to be a Competent Communicator. Taking roles, organizing events, evaluating speakers, and being a mentor are learning to be a Competent Leader.

Most new members only keep delivering speeches, without taking any roles at all. This happens because of the lack of knowledge about the CL Manual book, which we get together with the CC Manual book.

Delivering speeches only without learning the leadership in Toastmasters is like buying a house without getting the roof above your head. You won’t get the complete benefit of the house, or the Toastmasters membership.

Start going to the club by bringing your CL Manual, every week. Just by taking roles, you will be able to reach the title of Competent Leader.

Tantia was our Best Evaluator.
Our president Prawira came up with an exciting game after his speech.

The Tongue Twister.

He gave us difficult sentences that we must pronounce as quick as possible!

Members and guests were divided into three groups, and representatives of each group compete to say the difficult sentences! As the game went on, the sentences got more twisted and more complicated, the members felt more anxious and frustrated to win, and the audience got louder.

Every games has a winner. Next time, maybe it’s your turn.

The term 2013-2014 will end this June, and we are lucky to have new members that will bring more colors to our club. The Executive Committee will be changed to new persons, as regeneration is important for our growth.

Being a member of the Motivators Executive Committee will give you a chance to:
  • ·         Organize events such as joint meetings and contests.
  • ·         Learn leadership, in choosing and encouraging members to take roles every week.
  • ·         Learn to encourage and motivate people, as you ask members to deliver speeches.
  •          Expand your network by getting a free admission to Toastmasters Leader Institute             workshops twice a year, where you will meet excos from all Jakarta and even from             other   cities.

The candidates for the 2014-2015 Executive Committee of Motivators are:
  1. ·         President: TM Inazyelia Pramaboyu, CC
  2. ·         Vice President of Education: TM Christina
  3. ·         Vice President of Membership: TM Imam
  4. ·         Secretary: TM Cynthia Evelyne
  5. ·         Treasurer: TM Wardiman Djojonegoro, DTM
  6. ·         Vice President of Public Relation: TM Arya Adhiwijna

The names listed above are still candidates. All members of Motivators has the right to be any of the excos. You can express your interest to President Praw or the still running excos: (Lia, Ikhwan, Kelvin, Iyok, and Iwan), including asking about the duties of each position.

A member who are the current exco, and also our speakers who have achieved CC title said, “I want to give my triple titles for Mots next term (CL, ACB, ACS)”. Another said, “I will be an active member and I will join contests”.

These plans are all very fascinating. Whether you will be an exco next term, a contestant in contests, or an active member, let’s all keep contributing and inspire each other.
