Evaluation and Humorous Speech Contests 2015

Last Saturday we held Evaluation and Humorous Speech Contests for Jakarta Motivators Toastmasters Club.

As always, the contest meant a lot for all fellow Toastmasters. Those who joined the contest were hoping to see the improvements in delivering speeches, whilst those who sat as audiences were hoping to gain various benefits from the content of contestants speeches. 

We were very lucky, it was bright Saturday, and the weather wasn’t hot eventhough the contest started at 10 AM until 1 PM. The venue was Rempah Iting Restaurant which was located in Sunda Street number 7 (near Sarinah Dept. Store, behind The Harvest). The place was really homey, it presented such a warm ambiences for those who attended the event.

The Contest Master was Tantia Dian Permata Indah, one of so many gorgeous members of Jakarta Motivators Toastmasters who prepared very well for the contest. It was an honour for us to see her showing her skill in leading contest.

The sample speaker for the evaluation contest was TM. Khasish Harjani from Jakarta Innovators Toastmasters Club. We really appreciated his significant contribution for our club contest.

All contestants managed to give their evaluation for the speakers. They admire the quality of the speech’s core message and gave several suggestions for the speaker for his improvement in the next speeches.

The first was Risman. He told about his experiences in teaching his son and his friend using a method called “Interesting Teaching”. He claimed that this method sometimes didn’t works and often failed, yet by frequently using this method there were some success stories.

The second was Lineola Lesmana. She spokes about her experiences of not yet getting married. How her student asked her about why she haven’t had baby yet, and gave her solution that she can asked her student’s daddy to give her a baby. She also talked about her granny that gave her 3-hours long lecture about ideal husband. Lastly, she delivered a story of her friend misinterpreted her as a lesbian.

The third speaker was Erwin who told about sad experience of losing his wedding ring in his Honeymoon. It was a sorrowful moment but the way he wrapped the story really made the audiences laugh. At the end of his speech, he made the audiences agreed that a wedding ring was just a thing that although it’s really important in a marriage but not the most important. The moment to be enjoyed in a marriage was, above all, the most important.

The fourth speaker was Edwina who surprisingly talked about her “gentleman’s side”. She admitted that she loved football rather than doll. She also was not able to cook and put on make up on herself that led to her boyfriend’s leaving her to be with a guy who was prettier than her (what???). She tried to learn about make up and cooking and failed very often until she finally found that she was unique and people should see her uniqueness as beauty.

The fifth speaker was Arya who talked about his unromantic side and his helpful friend that supported him with a bucket of suggestion in how to get a girl. Unfortunately, thousands suggestion didn’t help him in getting a girl. Instead, he failed to get a girl although he brought her to a luxurious restaurant but forgot to bring his wallet. Such a classic and hillarious moment.

The sixth speaker was Ratih who delivered her experience of going to Japan and how she spent all night long in karaoke room and decided not to sleep in a hotel to safe her money. Her spontaneous side sometimes led her to a remarkable moment on her life, but this time has made her spent a night to sing along with her eyes barely close because she was super sleepy.
