What Will Be Your Legacy?

What will you give to the next generation as a legacy? You’re here for a reason, therefore think of what you can give to humanity and the next generation.

Such was the theme of our meeting last Wednesday.

Erwin the GE

It was a delightful meeting in several ways. We had Bambang back as the Toastmasters of the Meeting, who has been absent for several months and is surely missed. Lia was the Table Topic Master, and the topics were mostly quotes that made us think more critically.

"I paid no mind!" said Edwina.

Edwina, who recently joined the Humorous Speech Contest, delivered her BM3. First, she narrated about the famous Last Samurai Movie, which was well known by the audience. In the movie, the character Nathan Algren lost in a samurai practice because, as Nobutada said, he had “too many mind”. To win, he had to be “no mind” (note: grammatically wrong as quoted from the movie, spoken brokenly by a Japanese who knew only little English).

She connected the scene and the message with her personal life, of the time she had the worst career challenge. One of her ways of surviving was to pay “no mind”. To not care about what people might think of her and just moved forward and did her best. No one could stop us getting what we work for, especially not negative thoughts from others. Edwina successfully broke through her challenge and now working at DBS Bank.

"Which one is more attractive, a humorous or serious guy?"

Risman delivered his BM5 by asking, “Which one is more attractive, a serious guy, or a funny guy?”. He told about the story of a man who is funny in his manner and attitude, but in the end gave troubles to himself. Conclusion, Risman said, it’s better to be a serious guy. What do you think? Which one is more attractive, a serious guy or a humorous guy?

"Gluten-free diet is the best for digestion!" said Silvia. Yes, Ma'am!

We were lucky to have the sweet J2 Area Director, Silvia Novia, to attend our meeting. She delivered her advanced manual about selling a product. Related to her work, Silvia promoted a gluten free bread mix from the company she worked at. Gluten-free food are healthier, with barely any fat and cholesterol, and also much easier to digest.

She displayed a superb knowledge of the product and made us all wanted to start gluten-free diet. Wouldn’t you want to be healthier, too?

We were super time efficient, so we had lots of time left. First, we played the Whisper and Tell Game. The Game Master tell you a sentence, and you have to relay it to a team member only by moving your lips, without making any sound at all. It’s hilarious how everybody made strange shapes with their mouths and made exaggerated body language to win!

Best Speaker and Best Evaluator

Next, can you believe it, we even had time to have a second round of Table Topic! It’s fun because everyone got a chance to speak up and try the stage.
