Childhood Memories: Innocence

Have you ever wanted to come back to your childhood? To remember those times when everything was so simple and safe? If yes, then you should attend Toastmasters Motivators meetings this September, because our theme this month is “Childhood Memories”.

The Table Topic was special because Satriyo or Iyok held a quiz! He played short part of childhood songs and asked us to guess and sing it. So we sang to the songs like Si Komo, Joshua, Tina Toon’s “Bolo Bolo”, and Enno Lerian’s songs. Some members declared they were not even born yet on that era, haha…..

The next songs we guessed were McGuyver’s OST, Knight Rider, and even *coughcough*, The Legendary Baywatch OST.

To complete the nostalgic Table Topic session, we had a quiz to guess characters from anime and cartoons from our childhood. It was exciting and funny how we all answered the questions. Really like kids.

Moving on to the prepared speakers, we had Iwan who re-delivered his BM2, telling about “The Value of Reunion”. Some people you know in school might turn their backs on you once they got successful, but those who are worth it will stay true. Reunion is an event to remember old times and also to wish the best for the future, with friends who are important for us.

Ikhwan re-delivered his BM3, telling about his childhood in Aceh, where he was the leader of children in his big family. Later on, a child who was disabled taught him a lot. It was a beautiful memory for him now, of which he looked back happily.

Kelvin delivered his advanced manual about delivering a seminar, in which he taught us about the Limbic system of the brain. He said that most of our unhappiness is caused by the reaction of this part of our brain. Things like boredom, loneliness, and dissatisfaction are because of our limbic system acting up. The best way to control this part of brain to achieve peace and real happiness is through meditation.

Meditation can help you to organize your body and soul, and to integrate yourself into one. You’ll be more focused, peaceful, and even more intelligent!

If you want to try meditation to improve yourself, Kelvin suggested to try this: http://www.dhamma.org/en/schedules/schjava.htm

The last speech was from Tantia, who wanted to rehearse for the area contest. She delivered her speech from the club contest, about being perceived as a “Masculine Woman” and tried her jokes and body language. Afterwards, the whole members and guests who attended gave her feedbacks.

We all wish the best for Tantia at the area contest!
