Girl Power!

Our Meeting last week delved into “Girl Power” and Women’s growth in general. TOM Ratih Hardian asked the girls of Motivators about their achievements that even the guys could not achieve. TTM Elizabeth then gave challenging questions to the audience, both men and women.

Bambang delivered his BM2 speech, titled “Mirroring”. He told about mirroring someone’s behavior when we like them. When he started courting his girlfriend, he started following her habits, conscious or not. Once they got closer, she started to follow his habits too. This is a very effective way in trying to get close to someone.

Bambang’s appearance is very serious, but he is secretly very funny. We all laughed at his simple jokes, which were always surprising, coming from him.

Bryan won as Favorite Prepared Speaker

Bryan Gunawan from Metropolitan Toastmasters Club visited our club to deliver his BM6. He told about his wish of being an actor, and his father’s insistence in permitting it, advising him to learn Finance, the more “permanent” course of life in his opinion. But when your dream is alive, it will come true. Bryan’s friend offered him to act in a short movie, which was then aired in a film festival.

Once his father saw the movie, he said, “Thank you for showing me this movie. I believe now you can be an actor”.

Bryan has a public speaking school. It’s such an entertainment to watch him delivering his speech. His vocal varieties are so natural yet very engaging, stealing our attention from his first word to the last. Definitely an asset from Metropolitan TMC.

Lia delivered her AM3, the Storytelling manual, telling about Chantelle Brown-Young, the girl who had Vitiligo (a rare skin disease regarding pigment that makes someone has two skin colors). She is naturally a black-skinned girl, but starting from she was 5 years old, patches of white skin emerged all over her body. Her childhood was full of bullying and painful insults. Being called “Panda” and a “Cow”. Amazingly, she trampled through it all and became a contestant in America’s Next Top Model. She successfully won through her extreme difference, and now she’s a professional model.

Lia’s second story was about a huge Buddha’s statue in Cambodia that was made from pure gold, but covered with clay to hide it from the revolutionists. All the younger generations of the village kept praying to the statue, and regarded it as precious, although they didn’t know it was made from gold. It’s revealed only when the village had an earthquake that actually for years, the statue standing in their village was made from gold.

This is like us. We were born with golden hearts. But jealousy, hatred, and envy, often covered our hearts until we can’t find compassion within us anymore. Actually, we are all golden inside. If only we could rediscover ourselves from time to time, it will be incredible.
