Karaoke Night!

Jakarta Motivators Toastmasters Motivators had a karaoke themed meeting last week, on Wednesday 26, 2014. There are many ways to have a blast, especially with your friends, and pouring your hearts out, singing to your lungs’ limit, might be the best one.

Immediate Past President Prawira took the stage as Toastmasters of the Meeting. You would have thought he’d sing to open the meeting, but it’s a twist! He gave interesting trivia about karaoke. For example, karaoke first began in Japan, and was usually used solely between business colleagues. The junior employees would often entertain the more senior ones by singing, and some even learn singing from professional trainers to be able to perform well in karaoke!

So, karaoke was a serious business when it started, and gradually turned to be more relaxed fun through the years.

President Lia was the Table Topics Master!

The example of her questions were:

“You are a contestant of Indonesian Idol. What will you say to the judges in front of you?”

“You are a Diva in Indonesia, as famous as Syahrini. Greet your fans, please”

“You plan to treat your fans to a karaoke session, but when it’s time to pay, you realize you don’t
bring your wallet. What happens next?”

The answers from the Table Topics Speakers were all interesting and brought laughter for the
audience.

Even more interesting were the prepared speeches.

Elizabeth delivered her BM1 speech. For the past few weeks, she felt really nervous to deliver
her first speech, fearing she would do the worst. Her English is good and her voice is nice, and
of course she wow-ed us all in her speech.

Her speech was about being yourself, and that is all your need. Nobody is perfect, so love
yourself as you are, and everything will fall into place. It was delivered sincerely, so it touched
our hearts.

Nita delivered her BM2, also with a good message. Her speech taught us that no one in this
world can live alone. We depend on each other. The bond between humans is the heaven in
this life. Such a beautiful message right?

Ratih delivered her BM6 about her story when she traveled in Kyoto and Osaka. She met new
people and even karaoke-d with them for 8 hours non-stop! The people she met were unique
and different, and it completed her journey. We do after all, need people who are totally different than us to complete our life.

Arya delivered his BM9, with the title “Love Indonesia”. Although he already travelled to many
countries, he still finds that Indonesia has many qualities that must be appreciated. We need to
be grateful to be Indonesians, we have things that doesn’t exist in other countries. We are one
of a kind ^____^

DTM Sukardi delivering his eduspeech
DTM Sukardi delivered and educational speech, titled “The Structure of Awesome Speeches”.
When drafting a speech, he advised, begin by having a core message that you wish to deliver to your audience. If you don’t know what is the core message of your speech, don’t deliver yet, and find it first.

The second, don’t worry too much about a grand opening. Start drafting from the body first, then the closing. Once you are done with the body and closing, the right opening lines will come to you

Also, he informed, a good speech must be able to bring the audience from point A to point B.
From not informed to “informed”. From not entertained to “entertained”. And from uninspired to “inspired”.

It was a very good edu speech, easy to understand, and applicable for us all \O/
