Motzx!
Last week we had Motzx! It’s inspired by the famous TEDx,
and the theme was “Ideas Worth Sharing: The Future of Indonesia”. Motzx has no
grand room decorations or costumes. We focused only on the quality of the
speeches and the evaluators. And wow, it’s a fabulous night indeed!
Ideal vehicles for Jakarta |
The first speaker was Satriyo. In his speech, he elaborated
about his dream vehicles that could overcome the intense traffic jam of
Jakarta. We are stuck in wanting to own glamorous cars and SUVs, eating up the
space in our roads. Iyok (the nickname of Satriyo) said that actually, if we could
shed the selfishness of having glamorous cars, the most effective and efficient
vehicle is the modern version of Bajaj. Using gas, designed sleek, and with
slim frame, it could reduce the traffic jam significantly. He hoped that in the
future, automobile industry would realize this, to make his wish of traffic jam
free - pollution free Jakarta a reality.
"Make your own history!" Erwin said |
The second speaker was Erwin. His story was about his
childhood passion that he left because the lack of support from his parents.
It’s chess. He learned chess seriously as a child, but stopped pursuing it and
pursued other things, like football and hiking. You might think giving up chess
was a small thing for him, but apparently not. Although he took up other
hobbies, he still couldn’t forget chess. And after seven years, he came back to
play chess seriously, and guess what? He entered National Championship!
He said, History is written by survivors. Make your own
history and create your own version. If you have your passion, don’t give up
and pursue it. Sometimes, greatness is only one step away, as long as you keep
going.
"Sharing ideas is generosity" said Sukardi |
The third speaker was Sukardi. In his speech, he talked
about how Indonesia could be a great nation. But what is a great nation? Is it
only by statistics alone? Or is there more than just GDP Index? The same
definition of greatness can also apply for a person. What makes a person great?
The answer lies on his ideas, his beliefs, his passion, his effort in life, the
changes he made on other’s lives, and the legacy he left as a human, be it
small or big. And if every person could share his ideas of being a great human
being, it’s generosity. Definitely ideas worth sharing.
Imam shared his vision about education's future in Indonesia |
The fourth speaker was Imam, who talked about education. Education
matters most in reshaping the future of a country, yet Indonesia still lacks of
power in global education competition. It is because Indonesia has three main
problems: lack of education access, disparity in education quality, and
unsustainable government’s policies.
In his speech, Imam introduced the concept of Education 3.0,
a collaboration between online and offline education. Online education can
solve the main problem of education access, because it can connect students and
teachers without the boundaries of classroom’s space, region, and time.
Students can get the best learning material and teachers, and they’ll also be
able to join study groups and discussion forums.
His concept and concern about Indonesia’s education is
really enlightening. May this really become the future of Indonesia’s
education.
"Live as a champion or die as a loser" Arya vowed. |
Arya was the last speaker. In his speech, he told about the
things he learned as a rugby player. He often had injuries but kept on playing.
This relates with his daily life, and our own lives. In life, we always make
plans and work hard to receive it. But
still, even after all that, things could go differently and it’s not something
we can do anything about, no matter what. He said, we need to remember “Haka”.
Haka is a traditional war dance from Maori people in New Zealand. The dance
means we must live as a champion, or die as a loser.
Whatever difficulties we face, hold your chin up, and fight for it. Pull yourself together and try AGAIN. Because in giving up, we become losers. In keeping on trying, we become champions.
Arya reached his Competent Communicator title last week! And indeed, it was a very inspiring speech!
