Keep Calm and Get a Scholarship
Our meeting last week was themed:
Keep Calm and Get a Scholarship. The Word of the Day was Triumph.
This theme was chosen because
many Toastmasters members in Jakarta are interested to study abroad, so our
club is trying to facilitate a useful meeting for them.
The Toastmasters of the Meeting
was TM Puspita, who just received a scholarship to study in Sweden. She
explained about several foreign countries that offer scholarship to
Indonesians, such as Sweden, The U.K, USA, Japan, Netherlands, and etc.
The Table Topics Master was TM
Lia, who gave questions related to scholarship, which were:
1. Why
do you deserve a scholarship?
2. What
if you are faced with an intimidating interviewer for scholarship application?
3. If
your child in the future wants to go abroad, will you fund him/her on your own,
or will you ask them to get a scholarship?
4. If
you’re a judge for scholarship, who will you choose?
We have three prepared speakers
last week.
Ticha delivering her speech |
The first one was TM Ticha, who
delivered her Basic Manual 2 titled “The Digital Era”. She spoke about her
online business, selling bags that she produced on her own, and how easy it was
selling it on social medias and in tokopedia. The technology these days make
everything so much easier.
Ikhwan speaking about image |
The second speech was an Advanced
Manual 2 for Humorous Speech by TM Ikhwan. He spoke about people’s perceptions
and images. People who have bad image might be good people, and people who have
good image might be bad people. That’s why it’s very unwise to judge someone by
the person’s appearance only.
Zilva (Best Speaker), Satriyo (Best Table Topic Speaker) and Arya (VPE). Satriyo and Arya was acting cool, haha. |
The third speech was from our
District 87 PR, TM Zilva. She told a story of a full package: amusing and
inspiring. She told about how she always felt she wanted to be taller and gain
more weight. She tried many ways and worked hard to reach her ideal body
figure, but failed. In the end, she decided that she has to love herself as she
is, because no one is perfect. It was a very entertaining speech.
(PS: in my opinion, Zilva is
already pretty as she is. Definitely not tall and curvy, but she’s cute and
lovely)
Risman in action |
Next is an eduspeech by our very
own TM Risman. He is Area J4 champion for International Speech and also the
receiver of LPDP scholarship for his master degree. He also got a scholarship
for his bachelor degree. He gave his tips on how to get a scholarship.
The most important, he said, was
getting a good score in English proficiency test, then writing good essays as
requested by the scholarship institution. He asked two people to check his
essays. A person who is good in his subject and already has doctoral degree,
and a person who is good in grammar.
Then he said we must be
confident, because it’s really important.
There are other more interesting
tips by him, and if you need the slides, you can contact me at inazyelia@gmail.com
All in all, it was a very
inspiring meeting.
***************************************************
Tonight’s meeting theme is “Hero
vs Villain”, inspired by the movie that is currently airing in cinemas, Batman
vs Superman. Though the reviews are mixed, it is still interesting to talk
about your favourite superheroes and villain characters.
TM Ikhwan, our area director,
will have a detailed speech explaining about the most famous characters we all
love.
Three people registered to
deliver speeches of BM4, BM9 and AM2 (presentation).
Don’t miss our meeting tonight!
It will be fun yet you’ll be able to learn something too!
