April Fool's Day 2018

How did you kick off your April? Did you get fooled, or did you make a prank to your friends or family?

April Fool's Day,  it is a western tradition to celebrate the beginning of April to make a prank to others. This tradition was brought up as the topic of last Wednesday Jakarta Motivator Toastmaster's meeting.

TM Tika as the Toastmaster of the Meeting (ToM), splendidly prepared the meeting. She started with the introduction of April Fool's day history. Long ago, western people followed the Gregorian calendar, were the new year was begin in April. Then as the regime change, Julian calendar was introduced, where January is the start of the day. Yet, not everyone knows about the switching of the calendar. So, some people still celebrating the new year on the 1st of April. At that time, those who still mistaken April as the new year were considered as the fool. And the tradition of April Fools begin.

The word of the day (WoD) of last Wednesday meeting was "Vexed", an adjective which can be synonymized as "disputed/debate/controversial" or as "annoyed/infuriated/displeased". TM Bahtiar gave a very good example during the meeting. And the  WoD was used several time by some speakers.

Best Table Topic Speaker: Guest Tita

The Table Topic session was led by TM Sandro. There were five questions, and it makes the stage like a confession of either how mischievous or how ignorant you are. And it is fun and enjoyable to hear people story of their "dark side". And based on the ballot collected by TM Septi, the best Table Topic Speaker is our guest, Tita.

There were two prepared speech speaker, TM Teguh who delivered his first project Icebreaker, and TM Ratih who tried to entertain the audience as her advance project. 

TM Teguh told as the story about his motivation to be a geologist, his personal experience of Scottish English .VS. Sundanese English, and also his idol Mick Jagger (whom he thinks must be a prophet).

TM Ratih also shared her personal story when she roamed around Japan during her honeymoon. She told us about how mesmerizing the Japanese way of thinking, the way the keep doing kindness and make the kindness spread and infecting other people to do more good deeds.

In this meeting, we had an enchanting education session by TM Tantia. She shared about tips and trick to make you presentation sticks the audience mind by using visual. In her speech, she told us the basic rules that the visual aid is meant to emphasize the content of our presentation, and not distracting the audience with the imaginary image.

We also entertained by The Jokemaster TM Bahtiar, with his twisted and delusional way of thinking yet full of meaning. He told us how "good" he is as a father. and he also tried hard to vexed the -currently single- ToM.

The evaluation session was led by TM Yoga. The first prepared speech evaluation was given by TM Norman who evaluated TM Teguh, and followed with the TM Fina who evaluated TM Ratih. We are very grateful to TM Norman and TM Fina to help our member to improve by gave them speech evaluation.
