Meeting Recap August 4th 2021: Gather Your Rosebuds While Ye May

How many times do we worry about things that we aren't sure to happen yet? Instead of focusing on doing what is necessary to build the future in the present times, we dwell on our unproductive thoughts: racing and wandering minds, unpleasant occasions and past that we can't get rid of. 

Jakarta Motivator Toastmasters Club held its third regular meeting this 4th of August with a face slapping theme: Gather Your Rosebuds While Ye May. The meeting was opened with insightful prolog and introduction about Toastmasters and the main agenda by the President of the Club, TM Hansel. 

After a brief opening, the meeting’s control was handed over to Toastmasters of the Meeting (TOM), TM Nanda. She further explained the meeting theme and WoD in an engaging manner. The meeting then shifted to the meeting roletakers introduction that led by the General Evaluator, TM Redika, starting from the GE herself to other role takers: Grammarian (TM Heggi), Timer (TM Sandra), WoD Counter (TM Atila) and Ballot Counter (TM Melisa). 

In this meeting, there were three members delivering their projects. The first one was TM Redika, she delivered her report for her project event that of Motivator Corner Episode 2: Let’s Get Acquainted With Pathways on 14th of August 2021. The second speaker, TM Hansel, delivered his project of L1P3 Research and Presenting with speech tittle “Trap of Early Confident”. The last speaker, TM Melisa, shared her moving sharing session on how to comfort others in grief. Curious about their speeches further? So, what happened in our table topic session? TM Hansel as the Table Topic Master (TTM) used unusual method for table topics in which made the session especially enjoyable. Instead of letting the participants to choose on an unknown topic, he let them chose the topics that were favorable for them. Overall, it was an engaging and enlightening session! 

The topics covered something that had to do with today’s theme: Living in the Moment. TM Hansel offered nine topics with only six topics taken due to time limit. There were 6 participants (TM Sqauqi, STM Tika, TM Redika, TM Stephanie, TM Heggi and TM Sandra) who participated as Table Topic Speakers. As the TTM, TM Hansel led the session in a joyful and fun manner. The speakers gave their two cents regarding their preferred topics in an amusing way! In the end of table topic session, TM Sandra reported the time spent for every speaker. Glad to know that all speakers were qualified to be voted because no one was overtime. TM Melisa led the voting session. 

To grow our public speaking skills, we need reliable feedbacks from others. That is why we have evaluation session in toastmasters meeting. On the 4th of August, the meeting only had one speaker with evaluator because the other two didn’t require an evaluator for their project. Thus, there was no voting session for the best evaluator and prepare speaker at that day. TM Stephanie as the only evaluator, evaluated TM Hansel performance. She identified key strengths of TM Hansel that of enjoyable speech but with deep content and as well his biggest asset of having a convincing and charismatic tone. 

Beside prepared speakers, the meetings and some aspects were also evaluated. TM Heggi as a grammarian delivered his report which identify grammatical erros (and suggestions to correct them). TM Atila as Ah-WoD counter identified how many of filler words and word-of-the-day said by every speaker. TM Redika, as General Evaluator, concluded the evaluation of the whole meeting. 

Here came the awarding session! TM Melisa revealed the winner for Table Topic Speaker. Congrats to TM Stephanie who won the Table Topic Speaker the certificate was sent in the chat box, available for them to download. After that, we had announcements from Visiting Toastmasters from various clubs. After that, some of guests introduced themselves in this meeting: Felix, Ardo, and Tika.
