Jakarta Motivator Toastmaster - FUN, LEARN and GROW Together

Last week on Toastmasters Motivators, our theme was “Who Am I”, in which we dug deeper into ourselves and questioned whether we know ourselves for real, or not. Lia was the TOM and she read a poem titled “Who Am I”. She also asked 15 questions to the audience. Here are some of them: 1. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things? 2. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich? 3. What one thing have you not done that you really want to do? What’s holding you back? 4. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of? When will  you address it? Now or never? 5. How patient are you? Do you push the elevator button more than once?  Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster? 6. If not now, then when? 7. If you haven’t achieved it yet, what do you have to lose? 8. What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world? 9. Decisions are being made right now....

In April, we talk about the most memorable moments in our life. At the start of the month, we talked about “The Most Unforgettable Moments”. Last week, we talked about The Most Embarrassing Moments”. Ratih, one of our new members, tried being a Table Topic Master for the first time, providing questions for not only 5 speakers, 8 speakers, but 11 speakers in total! The Table Topic Speakers shared about their most embarrassing moments in life, garnering laughter from the audience. They spoke about their most embarassing moments in childhood, high school, work, and etc. For example, Christina told us about accidentally using her Javanese accent in saying “BBM”. It made her co-workers kept teasing her until now. Favorite Table Topic Speakers: Iyok and Tama. At the end of the Table Topic, we all felt we know the speakers better, thanks to Ratih in her TTM debut. Last week, still in February, the month of love, we had a romantic night thanks to Christina, our TOM. She took the time to prepare paper lanterns. It’s pink and so Valentine-ish! She hung the lanters on the ceiling, giving a sweet feel to the room. She also prepared a game. Cutting pink paper cartons to make a puzzle shaped like hearts, dividing us all in two groups. Each group must write their definition of love, then tried to solve the puzzle, forming a complete heart. It’s not as easy as we thought, but the yellow team won against the blue team, forming the heart faster! Yellow team won the game!!! Yay!!! The solved heart puzzle. Our first meeting in 2014 last week was filled with intense sharing sessions!!! It began with Table Topic session by Lia, taking the audience to look back into what’s best and worst of 2013 for them, also to think what they want to achieve in 2014. Next, we had Ikuyo-san who gave and edu-speech about Table Topic session. She said, We must listen well (from the question), grab the keywords, and make a story from the keywords, that has  an opening, body, and conclusion. Table topic allows us to practice quick thinking. When asked to choose between two options, or being asked “Which one do you prefer.....”, it is highly  recommended to choose something that is different from the general opinion. By choosing a side that is  controversial, you have more chance to develop more in your answer, practice your ability in explaining  more, and also catch the audience’s attention. Last week in Toastmasters Motivators, we journeyed around Medan. Our excellent Table Topic, Ariel, who was born in Medan, told us many interesting things about Medan. Like the “sudako”, durian, Danau Toba, and how direct people are in Medan. Everyone speak loudly and honestly in the now urban but also scenic city, where food is delicious and addictive.
